Course Description: Covers the science of behavior and how it differs from other analyses of behavior. Discusses the fiction of free will and how this intrudes into teaching, leading to the use of punishment and its harmful effects. Also covers positive alternative approaches to teaching offered from behavioral science.

Objectives:

  • Compare explanations about causes of behavior from behavioral science to explanations from other analyses of behavior.
  • Understand how the concept of free will intrudes into teaching.
  • Learn the various harmful effects of punishment.
  • Understand the alternative approaches to teaching offered from behavioral science.
