Countdown to Calculus

Note: Students who score less than 75% on the placement exam will be given a second attempt at the math placement exam upon successful completion of this course, allowing them to potentially place into Calculus 1 in their first semester after passing the placement exam in the second attempt.

  • Schedule: 1:00-2:00 PM, Monday through Thursday
    • May be taken either in-person or remotely for the benefit of incoming students who have yet to relocate to the area.
  • Enrichment Session: 10:30 AM-12:00 PM, Friday

  • Course Description: Provides the review of key mathematical concepts to help students gear up for fast-paced college level Calculus course. Focuses on helping incoming students prepare for their first math class at Florida Tech. Designed with the needs on first-year science and engineering majors in mind, the class will be a comprehensive survey of key foundational concepts that will be utilized in Calculus 1. The course will reinforce basic algebraic skills, giving students good operational competence in solving equations and inequalities, and allow them to confidently deal with polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. Students who score less than 75% on the placement exam will be given a second attempt at the math placement exam upon successful completion of this course, allowing them to potentially place into Calculus 1 in their first semester after passing the placement exam in the second attempt.
